Pedal Book ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to being transparent about how data is handled within our mobile application Pedal Book (the "App").

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed locally by the App, what information may be collected by integrated third-party services, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Overview of Our Privacy Practices

Pedal Book lets you build digital copies of your guitar pedals, edit them, and save tone settings on them — all stored on your device.

No User Accounts: The App does not require registration, sign-up, or user accounts. We do not collect names, email addresses, or direct personal identifiers.

No Dedicated Backend: Pedal Book does not operate its own backend servers or user databases. Pedal Book does not collect or upload your pedal photos, pedal designs, tones, or pedalboard data to its own servers.

On-Device Processing: Your pedal designs, tones, pedalboards, and any photos you take within the App remain stored locally on your device's internal storage.

2. Camera Access & Local Media

Camera Feature: The App can use your device's camera to speed up building a digital copy of a pedal — photographing a real pedal lets the App detect its physical design (shape and control layout) and use that to help set up a matching digital copy for you to edit. The camera does not read, detect, or record the actual knob or switch settings of the physical pedal; it only helps construct the digital copy's design. Once you have a digital copy, you can edit it and save your own tone settings on it directly within the App. The camera is only accessed when you explicitly open and use that specific page within the App.

Data Handling: Any photo taken for this purpose, and all image processing used to detect a pedal's design, is handled entirely on-device. These images are not transmitted to or stored on any external backend servers, and are not used for any purpose beyond helping build the digital copy you chose to create.

Data Retention & Deletion: Because this data is stored locally on your device, it remains there until you delete it through the App or remove the App and its associated data through your device's operating system.

3. In-App Purchases & Refunds

All financial transactions, subscriptions, or feature unlocks are handled entirely through the Apple App Store framework and your Apple account. We never receive, process, or store credit card numbers, billing information, or financial details. Purchases are governed by Apple's terms and privacy policies.

Content Tied to Paid Features: Some features (such as additional pedal, tone, or pedalboard capacity) are unlocked by a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. If a purchase is refunded — for example, through Apple's own refund request process — content created using that unlocked capacity during the period you held it may be removed from the App, so that your account reflects only the tier you've actually paid for. Content that existed before the purchase is not affected. This removal happens automatically on your device and does not involve any data being sent to us; we simply never see or store this content in the first place, on our servers or otherwise.

4. Third-Party Services (Google AdMob & UMP)

To support the free tier of Pedal Book and maintain the application, we integrate Google AdMob to display banner advertisements across multiple pages and occasional interstitial ads. For users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, we also use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to gather the consent choices described in Section 5 before any ad is requested.

Data Collected by AdMob: Google AdMob is a third-party service that may automatically collect certain technical information to provide, measure, and personalize ads, prevent fraud, and analyze ad performance. Based on Google's own documentation of the Google Mobile Ads SDK, this may include:

• Coarse location, estimated from your device's IP address

• Device identifiers, including the advertising identifier described below

• Advertising data, such as information about the ads you've seen

• Usage data, including how you interact with ads and the App

• Diagnostic data, including crash logs and app performance information

Of these, Google's documentation specifically describes crash log data as not tied to a particular user; the other categories above may be linked to your device and used for both advertising and analytics purposes, as described below.

Tracking & Ad Personalization: Before using your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for ad personalization, Pedal Book requests your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. This prompt appears once, after you finish the initial walkthrough. If you grant permission, this identifier — along with the coarse location, advertising, and usage data described above — may be used by Google AdMob and its partners to show you more relevant ads and measure ad performance, which is considered "tracking" under Apple's definition. If you decline, Pedal Book will not use the IDFA for tracking, and ads will instead be served on a non-personalized or contextual basis. You can review or change this choice at any time in your device's Settings.

We Do Not Sell Your Information: We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it in exchange for money. Google AdMob's own data practices, including any data sharing with its advertising partners for the purposes described above, are governed by Google's own policies, not ours — see the link below.

Data Retention & Third-Party Policies: Data collected by Google AdMob is subject to Google's own data retention schedules and privacy governance. For more information, please review Google's Privacy & Terms Policy.

5. Your Privacy Rights

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in the way those terms are defined under California law, beyond the standard AdMob ad-serving practices described in Section 4. Because Pedal Book does not maintain accounts or server-stored personal data, there is generally no personal data held by us for you to request access to, correct, or delete.

European Economic Area, UK & Switzerland Residents (GDPR): If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Pedal Book shows you a consent message — using Google's User Messaging Platform — the first time you open the App, before any ad is requested. This message lets you choose whether to consent to personalized advertising; declining is always available, either directly in the message or by reviewing your choices in more detail, and no purpose is enabled unless you actively opt into it. If you decline, Pedal Book will not request personalized ads for you. You can revisit and change this choice at any time using the "Privacy Options" row in the App's Settings screen, which appears only for users to whom this choice applies. Because the App does not collect personal data on our own servers, our own role in processing your data beyond presenting this choice is minimal — the data itself is handled by Google's UMP and AdMob services as described in Section 4.

Managing Ad Tracking Preferences: You can review and adjust tracking permissions for all apps, including Pedal Book, at any time via your device's Settings app, under Privacy & Security > Tracking.

6. International Data Transfers

Because Google AdMob and Google's User Messaging Platform operate globally, technical, advertising, and consent data described in Sections 4 and 5 may be processed in the United States or other countries where Google or its partners maintain infrastructure, which may have different data protection laws than your own country of residence.

7. Children's Privacy

Pedal Book does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under applicable age thresholds without appropriate parental consent. If you believe that personal data has been inadvertently collected through an integrated service contrary to applicable regulations, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app features or legal requirements. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
